26.09.2012 - 26.09.2012
Another brisk morning and we took our time to get up and going. A surprise visit from Jenny's niece to wish us goodbye.
We've decided to drive to Canberra via Harden and Murrumburrah and along the way we called in at the rest-stop near Wallendbeen. We'd been told that the Snack Shack caravan sold "the BEST Hamburgers". We'd been on the road all of 30 minutes and had finished breakfast less than an hour ago. What the hell !! We'll skip lunch !! Jenny ordered a plain one and I had one with the lot.
The Snack Shack is open from 7 AM to 10 PM and is operated by a local lady who's menu includes pies, sausage rolls, chips and a variety of hot and cold drinks. An amazing number of people called in for coffee in the short time we were there.
We arrived in Canberra just after 11 AM and were surprised at the huge number of caravans, mobile homes, tents and converted buses parked almost wherever there was a power-outlet. Fortunately, because we had prepaid, we were assigned a site in the primary campground. It is a campground and there are only a few rules so it was quite a task finding a suitable site but we were all set up by noon. No lunch of course, we'd had that hamburger after all 8-)
We spent the afternoon getting completely settled in, assessed the various rigs and watched the coming and going of other campers. The only meaningful thing I achieved was to bake a damper.
Nothing planned for this evening so we'll kick back, watch some TV and hit the sack early.
