Discovering Cootamundra

View 2012 Short Outing on greynomadm's travel map.

Started with a very cold early morning walk down to the railway station. A beautifully restored structure and unlike many in Australia - still functioning. Tried to capture a sunrise but I was unable to find a suitable vantage point.

After breakfast we both strolled down the main street and were impressed with the range of shops and goods available. We checked out some of the Real Estate listings and were surprised at how relatively inexpensive housing is. The whole atmosphere is of a friendly and very livable town. The fact that the town is not really on a major route between any of the bigger centres has pretty much left it alone.

A cheeky tee shirt asks the question "Where's Cootamundra?" the response is "Half way between Wallendbeen and Bethungra !!".

We had lunch with Jenny's brother and sister-in-law at their daughter's house. Most enjoyable despite the fact that he and I were picked on mercilessly by the three women. A great afternoon.

Drove out of town to capture some of the colour of the canola fields that cover the countryside like a green and gold patchwork. Topped up with fuel and retired to the caravan. The temperature dropped dramatically and after a light dinner we retired to the comfort of a warm bed.
